Last updated: September 24, 2026
Residents in Craighead County are being advised to prepare for a severe thunderstorm that could bring damaging winds of up to 70 miles per hour. Local news outlets, including Jonesboro Right Now, have reported on the issued warning, highlighting the potential for significant weather impacts. With such high winds on the horizon, this is a critical time to assess your home's readiness. The most vulnerable part of any home during a strong storm is often the roof. Loose shingles, damaged flashing, or compromised gutters can become hazards when subjected to intense wind. This week presents an opportunity to proactively address potential issues. Consider taking a walk around your property to identify any loose outdoor items that could become projectiles in high winds. Secure patio furniture, trampolines, and anything else that isn't bolted down. This simple step can prevent costly damage to your home and your neighbors'. For your roof, a visual inspection from the ground can reveal obvious signs of wear or damage. Look for missing or curled shingles, or any debris that may have accumulated. While a full inspection requires professional expertise, a basic check can help you identify areas that might need closer attention. Should you notice anything concerning, or simply want peace of mind, it’s wise to consult with qualified roofing professionals. Licensed and insured experts can conduct thorough assessments to ensure your roof is in optimal condition to withstand severe weather. Even if you don't see immediate problems, the approaching storm serves as a reminder to stay vigilant. Regular maintenance is key to extending the life of your roof and protecting your home from the elements. As you prepare for this weather event, remember that proactive measures are your best defense. Taking these steps now can save you significant stress and expense down the line.
